The Cozy Quilt

Someone small and sleepy is coming to the village tonight. Their quilt isn't finished yet. Pick up a patch and help the pattern find its way.

Welcome to the quilt porch. Pick a quilt, choose a patch, and find each one its spot.

A patchwork quilt draped over a low wooden daybed on a treehouse porch in warm afternoon light, its cream felt squares stitched with butterfly, mushroom, teapot, acorn, boot and snail patches. A tiny brown rabbit sleeps curled up on the rug under the daybed, and a wooden tray of loose felt patches and yarn balls sits on the porch boards nearby.

Pick your quilt

How to play

  1. Look at the quilt. Some patches are already sewn.
  2. Pick a patch from the tray, then tap an empty square.
  3. Only one of the same picture in a line, across or down. Each small square works the same way: just one of each.
  4. Changed your mind? Tap Take Back. There's no hurry here.
Look across: which picture is this row still missing?
Look up and down: which picture is this line still missing?
In a small square: just one of each picture.

What the buttons do

  • Start Fresh sends every patch you placed back to the tray, and the sewn-in patches stay.
  • The bell turns the sound on and off.
  • The full screen button makes the game fill your screen, and a second tap shrinks it back.
  • The arrow leaves the game and comes back to this page.

The Cozy Quilt is a picture sudoku. Your child picks a quilt on the village porch and finishes its pattern with six felt patches: a butterfly, a mushroom, a teapot, a boot, a snail and an acorn. Some patches are sewn in from the start; the rest wait in a tray. One rule holds the whole quilt together: each picture sits once in every row, once in every column, and once in every small square.

There are three quilts. The Rabbit Quilt is small and friendly: four pictures, many patches already sewn. The Fox Quilt is the same size, but your child sews more of it. The Deer Quilt is big, with all six pictures, for children who like a long, slow puzzle.

There are no timers, no scores, and no losing. A patch on the wrong square is never a mistake with a buzzer: it slides gently back to the tray while a short line says where to look next. Take Back returns the last patch, Start Fresh returns everything your child placed, and both work as many times as your child likes. If a pattern gets stuck, the game says so, and Take Back opens it again. Short, warm voice lines answer each try, and the bell in the toolbar turns the sound off. We built the porch as a calm corner: a place for looking slowly and placing patches with no hurry at all.
