Bat in My Hat: a Halloween Rock Song
Flap your arms and rock!
Hi! It’s Ori. Look up! A tall black hat grew wings, and it’s flying. Who’s inside? A tiny bat. And the bat has its own tiny hat!
This is a rock song, so let’s move. You can sit or you can stand. Flap your arms with me. Flap, flap, flap!
How to play
- Press play. The song starts.
- Hear “flap-flap-flap”? Flap your arms like little wings.
- Hear “Up goes my hat”? Put your hands up high.
- Hear “Big hat, small hat”? Make a big hat with your arms. Then make a small one with your hands.
- Hear “take a glide”? Stretch your arms out wide and glide.
Sing along: the words
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Up goes my hat, up in the air
Who put tiny wings in there
I put my tall black hat on tight
The hat grew wings and took a flight
It flew one loop above the mat
Oh! There’s a bat inside my hat
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Up goes my hat, up in the air
Who put tiny wings in there
It landed on a pumpkin chair
I reached to find it wasn’t there
My hat flew back above the mat
Inside: a bat who wore a hat
Big hat, small hat, side by side
Flap your arms and take a glide
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Bat in my hat, flap-flap-flap
Up goes my hat, up in the air
Who put tiny wings in there

Questions grown-ups ask
Is this Halloween song scary?
No. It’s a playful rock song about a hat that flies. The bat inside is small, smiling and friendly, and it wears its own tiny top hat.
What age is it for?
Kittelfdora Kids makes things for children aged 4 to 9, and this song is simple enough for the youngest of them. The chorus comes back three times, so little ones get to join in again and again. Older kids can lead the moves, or make up a new one for “take a glide”.
How long is it?
1 minute and 25 seconds. The hat flies away, lands on a pumpkin chair, and flies back with a bat inside.
